Pendant
Lights
in Kenya

Four collections from KES 2,400. Where a chandelier makes a statement from the ceiling, a pendant works up close, above a table, beside a bed, along a kitchen island. The placement rules are different, and so is the selection logic.

How Pendants Work

Closer to the activity, closer to the eye

Pendant lights are task-oriented by nature, they hang close to the surface they're illuminating, creating a pool of focused light that also happens to be a design element. Unlike a chandelier that addresses an entire room from height, a pendant exists in the zone where people live: above the dining table where you eat, beside the bed where you read, over the island where you cook.

This means the hanging height and shade size relative to the surface beneath it are the critical decisions, not so much the ceiling height. A pendant that hangs too high loses its intimacy; one that hangs too low becomes an obstacle.

Placement Guide

Where and how to hang them

Every room has a different hanging height, quantity rule and style consideration. Get these right and the pendant will look inevitable, as if it couldn't hang anywhere else.

Space pendants evenly and position the outer ones about 30 cm from each end. Hang all at exactly the same height, pendants at different heights over an island look accidental, not designed.

Single Pendant

A focal point, not a fixture

Works best over round dining tables, bedside positions, reading nooks and narrow entry corridors. One statement shade, one light source, one visual centre. The design language should be worth the attention it demands.

Multi-Light Cluster

Rhythm and repetition

Two or three pendants over a kitchen island or rectangular dining table. The cluster should be read as one composed element, same shade, same height, evenly spaced. Mixing heights or styles in a cluster rarely works unless it is very deliberate.

What to Budget

Pendant light prices in Kenya

Most popular pendants for dining tables fall in the KES 5,000–9,000 range. Glass and artisan designs run higher; industrial and farmhouse styles are the most affordable. All prices include VAT.

Most pendants include adjustable cords (100–150 cm), standard Kenyan ceilings at 2.7–3 m are well covered without modification.

Common Questions

Pendant light FAQ

How high should a pendant light hang over a dining table?+

Hang the bottom of the shade 75–90 cm above the tabletop. Low enough to create intimacy and frame the table, high enough that people across from each other can see clearly. This measurement does not change with ceiling height.

How many pendants do I need over a kitchen island?+

Two or three, spaced 60–75 cm apart, with the outer pendants about 30 cm in from each end of the island. Hang them all at exactly the same height — pendants at different heights over an island look accidental rather than designed.

What size pendant shade should I choose?+

Over a dining table, pick a shade spanning one-third to one-half the table width. A single statement pendant suits a round table; a linear three-light fixture suits a long rectangular one.

Can I use a pendant instead of a bedside lamp?+

Yes. A bedside pendant frees up the whole nightstand surface, which matters in a small bedroom. Hang it 45–60 cm above the nightstand with a warm-white bulb, low enough for comfortable reading without glare toward your partner.

How much do pendant lights cost in Kenya?+

Most dining-table pendants fall between KES 5,000 and KES 9,000. Industrial and farmhouse styles start around KES 2,400; hand-blown glass and natural-material artisan pendants run higher. All prices include VAT.
